Care Facility Outreach

Meet some of our volunteers...

Just imagine being moved into a nursing home, having little or no say in what is happening to you, and then realizing there is no one there just for you.

Studies have shown that about one-half of all nursing home residents actually receive regular visits and that they are twice as likely to die in the same period as those who receive regular visitors.  They die, not from loneliness, but from a broken heart.

Three ways to get involved:

1.  One-on-One - people 21 years and older making one-on-one visits to residents of nursing homes. Through CFO, we provide trained volunteers to build one-on-one relationships with the people who live in care facilities. Some basic training and then assigned to a nursing home in your neighborhood. Fill out the online application here!

2.  GrandFriends - teams of youth 13-20 making visits to nursing homes, adopting one or two of the residents as GrandFriends.

3.  Volunteers Assisting Loving & Uplifting Elders - Whole congregations adopting whole nursing homes. Have your congregation adopt the nursing home in your neighborhood through V.A.L.U.E.

"Yolanda's World."

GrandFriends - Video  Youth are introduced to one or two residents of a care facility with the hope that a lasting relationship will form.  The resident feels a sense of value as they make input into the life of a young person, and the young person experiences, maybe for the first time, unconditional love.
