Illness that requires hospitalization impacts individuals, their families
and often the people directly caring for them on a spiritual level.
Research indicates that 95% of patients surveyed stated they prayed
daily to God. However, only 15% of nurses felt adequately prepared
to deal with their patients' spirituality.
Through a series of
workshops
on spiritual distress, registered nurses, nursing assistants and physicians
are taught how to meet the spiritual needs of their patients.
In addition to these workshops, fellowship groups are scheduled throughout
the year to provide medical staff with an avenue for networking and
sharing their ideas
and concerns.
