It can happen without warning.
Your parent, spouse or loved one may suffer a
stroke, broken hip or serious illness necessitating the need for a degree of
care you are neither prepared or able to meet.
Or, you observe behavior that indicates your once independent elder can no
longer care for themselves.
What is the next step? Who will you call? What resources are available
to help you make decisions about the future? How do you deal with the emotional
trauma and sadness of dealing with these issues? What about the interpersonal
relationships with your elder and with other family members? Moving a loved-one
into a nursing home is a traumatic experience.
Three areas will be vitally important to you during this next phase of life
for you and your loved one:
|
God desires to give you His wisdom and guidance and peace through the maze of
choices you face and that He is present and able to provide comfort in the midst
of sadness, grief, and confusion.
Many of the decisions you will make will be “natural” ones, i.e., determining
the type of help needed, locating local resources or, navigating the legal and
government and health systems.
Through prayer and biblical counsel, God can provide guidance and peace as
you make your decisions. Walking through your decisions with faith in God will
benefit your relationships both with your loved one and with other family
members.
Every Friday from 11 a.m.—1 p.m. we pray for nursing home residents, the care
staff and the families.
Please let us know how we can pray for you. We would like to hear from
