GrandFriends

What is GrandFriends?

It is an outreach that pairs junior and senior high school students with care facility residents with the goal of building lasting relationships.

How is this accomplished?

Each GrandFriend opportunity may vary.  As an example, you would be given 2 GrandFriends.  You will be asked to visit each of them once a month on your scheduled Saturday -- to spend 1/2 hour with each expressing the love of God by example.

You could watch a football game with them, listen to their sorrows and reminiscences, share your life with them or sit outdoors with them. You will be asked to write a brief letter to them once a month. You will be asked to pray for them as you share the greatest gift of all with your GrandFriends, love.

I have no talent -- I can't sing!

Yes!  You don't need to be talented...YOU JUST NEED TO BE THERE!  Our GrandFriends don't need talent -- they need a friend. Nearly one-half of all nursing home residents do not receive regular visits from anyone!  They die not from old age, but from loneliness.

Is this a mission field?

Yes.  They are sitting there...waiting. Be a part of this needed ministry.
