Last year Desert Ministries and the frail, institutionalized older adults they serve were the beneficiaries of free athletic tickets to Creighton Athletic events. Desert Ministries will now enter the second year of this partnership, garnering free tickets to many different athletic events. Once at these events, it is the Desert Ministries’ volunteer that helps the older adult enjoy the game, get them something to drink, etc.
Many institutions are unable to have the activity programs they wish they could have for their residents because of the cost. Therefore, Desert Ministries approaches organization asking that they think of the frail, institutionalized older adults by giving free commodities. The Creighton University Athletic Department has graciously done this.
These simple things allow these individuals the opportunity to “get out and stretch their legs,” to enjoy once again the things that they once used to enjoy.
